Clockwork Toy
1950s (made)
The horse is of lithographed tinplate cast along the length and held with
tongue and slot joints. It is without legs and is red and yellow with brown; blue and white trim. On the top is attached a metal bear with the head; body and feet covered with black fur fabric and the legs with yellow nylon cloth. The ears are lined with white card and the nose of black rubber is on a metal face mask printed in blues; red white and black to show the eyes; cheeks and mouth. On the head is a red felt cap. The clockwork mechanism is contained in the bear and the key protrudes from the left side. From the chest is a bar connected to the neck of the horse. When wound the bear moves back and forth forcing the horse to rock.
