Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Shawl of woven silk, with a black ground with long, curving stems of flowers springing from jewel-like motifs along the centre fold line. The ends between these guard-stripes have a 32.25 inch (82cm) border composed of cresting and deep border between horizontal guard-stripes. These areas of pattern are linked by alternate cones in the border which start at the bottom of the lower guard-stripe, cross the upper and project into the lower part of the cresting. These very large ones are red and contain a stem of flowers. The smaller cones between them are filled with flowers on a black ground. The ground of the border is olive green and yellow. The symmetrical cresting design contains opposed slanting cones in counterchange red and green.
