Embroidered ornament from a dress. On a background of light brown silk is embroidered a rectangular frame containing a bar, parallel to the longer sides, from which spring conventional foliate scroll forms. The bar divides at the centre to surround a reserved diamond and two triangles. The design is oulined in pale blue silk in chain stitch, then filled with dark brown. From its shape the piece may have formed the decoratiion of a collar, cuff or possibly part of a shoulder band or hem.

Technical details:

Ground: Woven in 2/1 twill.
Outlines: Embroidered in Chain stitch.
Fillings: Embroidered in Ladder stitch.
