Square shawl of figured silk chiné. Woven in red and black silk with a bold pattern of flower-bearing twigs entwined with scrolls and arabesques forming a red border on the black satin ground. Within this is a second border of chiné, a continuous twiggy stem printed in yellow with green and white leaves and flowers of red, yellow, purple and bronze shades all muted with white. The centre of the shawl has scattered sprigs of flowers, some in chiné and some formed by the red silk weft. Knotted into each side is an eight inch silk fringe in black and red. Warp satin of 5. Weft pattern of loose floats, fancy twills and basket weave over warp threads in groups of three.
