| Gallery label | These unfinished bags reveal a traditional process for making small flat textile purses which were often used to carry tobacco. The surface decoration, either embroidered or adorned with iridescent beetle wings, was carefully carried out on parchment, silk or tapestry by skilled craftspeople. Shown here are the bag components before being cut and assembled [T.13-1949, 9765:1(IS), 6281(IS), T.296-1916, 1375B-1854].
