1. horse prototype, expanded polystyrene, yellow. It is in a walking stance and has a movable head and neck. The lower neck is attached to the area between the shoulder blades by a knob each side. There is no tail or mane but there is a hole for the tail and another in the belly. The casting lines have not been trimmed.
2,3 right side of a horse, moulded brown plastic; each with a green approval label marked D582 A/M HORSE; signed HGL? (5;000 RUN) and dated 12.9.77. 2 is marked in ink inside 82 and 3 88.
4,5 left side of a horse which matches the other side; each with a green approval label marked D562 A/M HORSE; signed HGL? (5;000 run) and dated 12.9.77. 4 is marked in ink inside 43 and 5 55.
These are final prototypes before the production model and reveal the pegs and lines used to emerge the two halves before the centre join is sealed. They also show the original weld lines inside for the shoulder and rump plates.
6. horse, moulded brown plastic which represents parts 2 to 5 joined and welded together. It is marked on the left side in black ink - F6/70/003 and 3/5.
7. horse;,moulded from grey plastic which is much coarser and heavier than the brown plastic. It is a prototype and casting model. Embedded into its front off and rear near feet are brass nails.
8. pre-production model, moulded black plastic with white mark on forehead and complete with black nylon hair mane and tail.
9. pre-production model, moulded dark brown plastic with white mark on forehead and complete with brown nylon hair mane and tail.
10. sample of tail, black saran or nylon hair, the length is looped in half, held by a band and a length of white cord; there is a metal ring at the loop end.
