German Staff Car, Prototype

1. prototype, cast in black plastic overpainted with a yellowish khaki. It is mounted on two pairs of wheels with black plastic tyres. Between the back wheels is cut a hole in the bodywork. There are a number of scratches revealing the black under the paintwork. The whole is cast without the front seats with the back seat also moulded to show the rolled down canvas hood. On the sides are moulded a pick and an axe; at the back is a water and petrol can moulded in. The windscreen is held on through holes on each side allowing it to fold down over the bonnet. A black steering wheel has been added as have hand made decals of black and white card showing German markings including the palm tree symbol.
2. front seet produced in the same manner. It slots into the body of the car.
3. black and white card cross decal which should be attached to the front of the bonnet
4,5. pair of windscreens, moulded beige plastic. The top right corners are missing; however; this is part of the moulding not through damage. They are untrimmed. Attached to one is a green approval label - CODE NO. G 1727/PRODUCT G. STAFF CAR/APPROVED BY LJ CODRINGTON DATE 17/4/78.

Object history | References: Made by Palitoy; Coalville; Leicester; England. This was made for the Action man wholesale range, 'Task Force' This was a moulding prototype to approve the colour. The object has a sticker with sign off from Les Codrington, process engineer for Palitoy. |
