Forehead band, part of a Norwegian bridal costume purchased by the donor in 1865 from the original owner. The piece consists of two parts: a rounded length of red worsted fabric with three rows of applied silver lace, and silk rosettes decorated with coloured glass beads; and a narrow brocaded silk ribbon stitched to the reverse, such that the pleated pink silk trim is visible from the front.
To the reverse, a patchwork of printed floral cottons line the main body of the band. Two pairs of tying strings of green woollen braid are attached at each end.
Worn as part of a larger headdress assemblage known as lad, traditionally topped with a bridal crown.
