Belt of purple velvet, worn on festival and holidays by the women of Vierlande, a district on the Elbe river near Hamburg. German, 19th century.

Embroidered with silver gilt thread and spangles, further enhanced with golden tinsel and pieces of red facetted glass. The dense embroidery depicts a central vase from which emerge flowers; wavy floral stems are worked on the remained of the belt. The embroidery is slightly padded with thin card.

The belt fastens with three hooks and eyes
