Cap of silk gauze, dyed red, with a broad border in front of coarse pillow-made lace. Embroidered with black cotton to the rear. The pattern of the lace border consists of wavy floral stems and birds on a ground of square mesh. The embroidery is composed of the initials B.K. M.K. and three rosettes.

Worn by the women of the Vierlande, a district on the Elbe river, near Hamburg. German, 19th century.
