Man’s waistcoat of fine bleached linen with a round neck, curving 2-piece sleeves, slightly curved fronts and skirts reaching to the top of the knee. Each front has a pocket and a scalloped pocket flap. The waistcoat, pockets and pocket flaps are lined with bleached linen, the sleeve linings pieced with linen and fustian. The waistcoat is embroidered-to-shape with linen thread with French knots, quilting, cording, drawn-thread and pulled-fabric work, around the front neck and pockets, on the pocket flaps and cuffs, and along the front edges and hems. In a pattern of large flowers and leaves. There are 4 corded buttonholes along the left front edge, 1 at the neck and 3 at the waist. These are uncut; there are 19 worked buttonholes on a strip of linen under the left front edge and 19 corresponding Dorset thread buttons on the right front.
