| Historical context | Orphreys are ornamental stripe or border,which adorn Roman Catholic ecclesiastical vestments such as a chasubles, hence the monogram for Jesus Christ in the embroidery here. Such vestments are worn by priest officiating at different rituals, including Mass. |
