Sampler of embroidered linen with coloured silks in cross, stem and satin stitches. The embroidery is carried out in very small neat stitches. In the centre is a verse beginning with 'Sarah Williams is my name' with the inscription 'Sarah Williams, her work', and the date 'July the 22nd 1796' worked in shades of pink and red within a square border of continuous S-scrolls with a flower in each corner. Above are two lines of alphabets, a line of formal ornament and a row of diphthongs and S-scrolls with flower motifs underneath.

On either side, the main square flower and tree motifs are arranged symmetrically, each one on a line of satin stitch in yellow. Below are two lines of satin stitch above each of which are floral and other motifs arranged symmetrically in lines. Border on three sides of a chevron strawberry pattern.
