Object history
This parasol is said to have been a present to Lady Elizabeth Waldegrave from her sisters, as she was a great collector of butterflies. It was accompanied by a label on which was written:

'The Lady Elizabeth Waldegrave
With the best respects
of THE ROYAL ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY
"Coming Events Cast Their Shadows Before"'

An additional pencilled inscription reads "1866 or 1867" This label is preserved in the original acquisition registers.
