Picture of Jacquard-woven silk. Woven with black silk on a white silk ground, and showing the nations of the world paying homage to the arts and industry of France. A group of eight figures, including Russia, Japan, America and Africa, are in the lower right looking towards a figure standing on a pedestal holding laurel wreaths and a palm frond and surrounded by Mercury, Labour and a third figure. A cherub blows a trumpet towards the top with stylised flowers springing from Gothic leafy scrolls on either side and a monogram, with the date 1900 superimposed above. The Tricolour, the Arms of Paris cloth, Jacquard cards and palms occupy the bottom left hand corner. Wide borders of white silk on each side. Cream corded bands at the top and bottom, and a third four and seven-eighths inch from the bottom band.
