White silk cover embroidered with flowers in coloured silks (shades of blue, green, brown, pink) in satin stitch. Ivory handle with dragon's head grip, and shaft and ferrule carved with dragons, butterflies, etc.

Object history | An attached label reads "This parasol was used by Queen Victoria at the opening of the Exhibition, 1851, and given by the Duchess of Kent to Mrs. Seabrooke who gave it to Mrs. Boden, from whom I received it. Leonard Noble. August, 1900" Regarding this label, Major Wickham writes from Marlborough House, 16/7/1947:- "This, of course, was not authentic; in fact I believe the contemporary pictures prove to the contrary." |
