Small parasol with a fully beaded cover depicting a twin-tailed mermaid or siren. The cover is edged with a silk fringe and lined with white silk covering the internal structure. The pole and handle are wood, with a metal ferrule and ring shaped nose cap, which might allow it to be worn on the finger or attached to a waistbelt.

| Object history | Description from the acquisition register Parasol, the cover composed of beads of opaque, transparent and translucent coloured glass, and gilt metal threaded upon white cotton; there is a cream-coloured fringe. The slender stick is of wood stained brown, with small circular loop and finial at either end of turned bone. Hexagonal in shape. Each section has a winged demi-figure terminating in leafy scrolls. Slight wavy stem borders above and below. Stick broken and repaired in Art Work Room |
