Gallery label | The silk surface of this delicate pocket book has been used as the canvas for a painted grisaille landscape inspired by 17th-century Dutch prints. A number of pocket books with similar monochrome scenes survive in other museum collections and suggest the existence of a workshop specialising in this painting technique.
