Flat sheet of black slate surrounded on all four sides with smoothed wood; the corners are rounded. The mark is burned into the wood along one edge with the words and a drawing of a cock or rooster. It has been used and there are the traces of words scored into the surface. The slate itself is cracked across one corner and sideways from top to bottom; however; these do not affect the whole which could be still used.
