Place of origin |
Hanging of white woven cotton linen decorated with wefts of blue linen, reversible.
The pattern can be divided into two main areas. The first is a deep block, 13.5 inches, of geometrically patterned stripes alternating with stripes containing a row of birds, perhaps peacocks, with trailing tails and is woven with an additional pattern weft on a tabby ground. These stripes are separated from each other by a plain tapestry-woven band in blue woven on groups of the white linen warp threads. The second pattern is of a single stripe of lozenge-shaped ornament flanked by similar tapestry woven stripes, and separated from the blocks above and below by a stripe of chequer ornament woven in the white linen ground. The whole is 5.5 inches deep.
These two areas of pattern alternate with four of the large blocks of pattern in the length of the band. Chequer pattern strips at the top and bottom show that the band was woven to this length.
