Object history
This hat shows the transition between the tricorn (the staple design of the 18th century hat) and the top hat (the staple design of the 19th century.) The crown is higher, the brim is narrower, and is turned up on either side in the manner of a bicorn, but without the height of the typical bicorn brim.
