Object history | The original register is unsure whether recording the garment as Hungarian is correct. Donated by Miss Gertrude Jekyll of Munstead Wood alongside items T.116 to 184. Gertrude Jekyll was a British horticulturist, garden designer, craftswoman, photographer, writer and artist and a prominent figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. She travelled extensively in Levant, Algeria and Europe, observing craft techniques. Her book Old West Surrey (1904) records the material life of 19th-century rural Surrey. |
