A man's coat of figured silk in a pattern of yellow and blue floral motifs on a yellow ground. It has a round neckline and standing collar (3.7 cm). The shaped, two-piece sleeves extend to the wrist with round cuffs (8.5 cm at top, 9 cm at bottom). The coat fronts curve from neck to hem with skirts below the hip, set in pleats (16.5 cm) at the sides. There is an inverted pleat on each side of the centre back opening. There is a scalloped pocket flap on each front at hip level. The pockets, sleeves and coat backs are lined with linen, the collar, cuffs, pocket flaps, back skirts and coat fronts with pink silk taffeta. The edges of the coat fronts are interlined with coarse buckram. There are 11 silk-covered buttons (one now missing) on the right front, from neck to pocket flap, with 11 correspondinguncut buttonholes, worked in yellow silk twist. There is a metal eye on the left front edge at the 4th buttonhole down from the neck; the corresponding hook is now missing. Each pocket flap has 3 uncut buttonholes with 3 buttons below the pocket; there are 3 buttons and uncut buttonholes on each cuff, one button above the pleats (one on the right now missing); one holding the pleats together on each side at the hem and one in the centre of the side back pleat. There are 3 uncut buttonholes on each side of the back vent at the top.
