Brocaded silk chasuble back. Pink ribbed tabby brocaded in silver thread wound on a yellow silk core, giving the appearance of silver gilt thread. The design is composed of highly stylised floral forms alternating in direction to form a marked zig-zag pattern.
Brocaded tabby with no separate binding warp. Proportion of wefts: 1 ground and 1 brocaded weft. The ribbed ground is formed by a weft which is much thicker than the warp. 160 warp threads to inch, approximately 36 wefts. Découpure: 4 warp threads.
The chasuble back is made up from nine pieces of silk carefully joined. This was a dress not an ecclesiastical material.
