Woman's dress comprised of a bodice and skirt of woven cream silk lined with white cotton. The silk is patterned with a ground of cream checks with a repeating pattern of small cornflowers in red, blue, and green. The full skirt is pleated at the waist, with a fastening of cotton ties on one side, and a pocket on the other. The bodice has a narrow v-shaped neckline, and tapers to a point at the waist. The sleeves are full length and have two decorative green satin bands around the upper arms.

Woman's dress comprised of a bodice and skirt of woven cream silk lined with white cotton. “I am in receipt of your letter of the 27th inst. & beg in reply to say that I shall be quite satisfied to present the articles of costume on the understanding that they be preserved for the use of students either in the Victoria And Albert Museum or in provincial museums in connection. My sole desire is that the articles (which are of family interest) be preserved & made useful – the more widely the better.”
