Place of origin

Dress consisting of equal stripes of brown and beige watered silk. It has a high round neck and wide double pagoda sleeves trimmed around the edges with an applied braid of dark brown velvet and beige satin. A similar band arranged in a deep 'V' trims the back and front of the bodice. The bodice fastens at the centre front with hooks and eyes and a false button fastening is suggested by small domed-shaped pearl buttons set in brass. The skirt is flat pleated equally to the round waist. The dress is lined with glazed cotton, faced back at the hem with glazed brown cotton twill, and has a brown brush braid. The cuff is lined with white satin and trimmed with a narrow white satin gathered ribbon. In the left side front waist seam is a watch pocket. It is hand stitched.
