Object history
In an advert in the Manchester Courier on the 13th March 1902, Peter Robinson Ltd claimed to be the 'largest drapery establishment in the kingdom'. As well as providing an extensive collection of dress fabrics, trimmings and patterns, the London department store also offered a wide range of made-to-order and ready-made women's clothing and accessories including hats and shoes.

When giving this gown to the V&A, the donor reported that it was worn to a wedding by her aunt in 1902.
