Curtain
ca. 1910 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Silk-embroidered curtain worked on both faces with a reversible design. Two-sides of rose pink 'Art' silk patterned in a repeating design of rows of two motifs showing stylised tulip and rose trees alternating with small sprigs of thistles and rosebuds. Worked in two-sided satin stitch in floss silks and pattern embroidered in purple, light and dark pink, yellow, white and three shades of green. The two-sided techniques show a few slight gaps on one side of the curtain. Because of the enormous height of this curtain it was probably made in such a way that it could be cut without destroying the design or the embroidery. The top and bottom of the curtain have a hand-sewn hem. A piece of cotton tape sewn to one corner has an inked number '=7008'.
