Object history | Donated to the V&A by Zika Ascher after the "Ascher" exhibition in 1987. Historical significance: Lida and Zika Ascher began producing dress fabrics and fashion accessories after moving to Britain during the Second World War. They worked closely with leading couturiers and designers, for example. Lida Ascher's small patterns were used extensively by Edward Molyneux in his 1942 collection. They also produced a range of widely sold inexpensive fabrics under the name of Bourec. They established their own screen printing works and were able to carry out ambitious artistic projects along with their dress fabric production. |
