Bonnet of blue silk velvet and trimmed with silver gilt metal bobbin lace and an applied looped braid trimming. The bonnet frames the face, from which it should be worn slightly back, and has a short flared collar which covers the neck and top of shoulders. It has no back seam and is shaped with darts at the front border, which are covered with an applied turned back brim and a triangular panel which folds back over the top of the head. Both of these and the cape collar are edged with the silver gilt thread decoration. There is a blue satin adjustment ribbon at the back and ribbon ties of the same material under the chin. The cape is lined with black silk and is hand-quilted.

Registered File number 1985/1247. It is possible that, from the size, this bonnet was intended for a young girl. In periodicals, similar bonnets are shown for girls or for the elderly more frequently than for fashionable ladies.
