Hand-knotted carpet worked in wool on a mercerised cotton warp. Woven at a thickness of four Turkish knots to the inch with thick brown woollen binding weft.
The field design shows trailing and curving stems in shaded pale blues and pinks each of which has a stylised leaf or flowerhead. The central motif of the carpet shows a rectangular, jewel-like design in greens and pink. The main design is worked in greens, blues, pinks, peaches and mauves on a red ground. All stems and floral motifs are edged in white.
1. Borders (outer edge to field). Plain red stripe (1.5 inches wide)
2. Green, white and red stripes (each 0.5 inch wide)
3. Main floral motif. Repeating design of curving stem with leaves and pink flower-heads worked in greens, blues and pink on a blue ground. The motif is edged with white. The repeat is 30 inches long and the border 7 inches wide.
4. Plain red stripe (0.5 inch wide)
5. Brown and white diagonal stripe (1 inch)
6. Green and white stripes (0.5 inch each)
The carpet has flat woven top and bottom edges which are turned under and sewn down.
