Carpet

1950s (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Pile carpet sample woven in two parts with different knot counts, so that in one part there are five rows of knots to the inch, and in the other the design is compressed to five and a half rows of knots to the inch. This makes a half inch difference in the width of the border cabuchon.

Neo-classical design including acanthus scrolls in shades of green, pink, yellow and brown on a fawn ground. On one side is a neo-classical border with elongated cabuchons in pink and gold against a twisting running pattern in shades of blue. The inner guard stripe is a 'gilded wood' moulding of brown and yellow, the outer is a lattice of grey-blue over a shaded pinky-ground. There is a plain pale brown outer edging.
