Sample of Axminster carpeting hand-knotted in worsted pile on a possibly linen warp. With Turkish knots, eight to inch horizontally and eight vertically, sixty-four to square inch. There are two worsted wefts between each row of knots. The carpet is finished with a pile-less strip at the upper and lower edges sewn back onto the reverse. The design contains part of a scroll in cream enclosing an area of red, and outside are two different shades of blue.
