Woman’s apron of ivory silk taffeta embroidered with silk twist in red, yellow, brown and shades of green and blue, some yellow and tan in satin, long and short and split stitch and French knots. It is worked in a pattern of large leafy swags and large exotic flowers, carnations and pomegranates. Borders for 2 pocket openings have been embroidered and cut, with pocket bags of ivory silk sarsenet. The apron is backed with ivory silk sarsenet. The waist is pleated and stitched to a 5-16ths-inch (7 mm) wide ivory silk grosgrain ribbon, which extends to form the ties. The waistband has come undone in several areas.
In the 1760s or 1770s, a border of woven lace [braid] of looped ivory silk threads and cord was added around the three sides of the apron and around the pocket openings.
