This woven corset, which weighs just 0.14kg, was worn for riding. Made from fabric woven on a loom, with pockets for the bones and busk, woven corsets were lightweight, flexible and washable. Stitched corsets, which were made from seamed pattern pieces and provided more support, were also worn on horseback.
The woven corset was patented in France in 1832 by Jean Werly.
