19th century or 20th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Woman’s bodice. This is a sleeveless, low cut bodice which is probably more like a corset in construction and which would have been worn over a blouse. It is made of black cotton, stiffened with bones to create a decorative pattern. It is lined with white cotton.

It fastens with three gilt hooks on the front right and three gilt chains on the front left. On either side of the front opening are five decorative hooks between which a chain would have been threaded. All the hooks on gilt, except for the lowest one on the right hand side (as worn) which is silver.
