This panel is the work of a specialist in this form of inlay. The mother of pearl was imported from the Dutch colonies. Van Rijwijck's earliest work is a panel in Dresden, dated 1654. There are table-tops in the Neues Palais, Postdam, and the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

Physical description
Two panels, slate inlaid with mother of pearl. A bunch of flowers is set in a two-handled vase, engraved with a parrot amongst fruit and foliage. Above, there are two butterflies, below on the left a large parrot on the right a snail.

Object history
There are comparable pieces in the Green Vaults (Grune Gewolbe) at Dresden, in the Neues Palais at Postsdam, in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, in the Johanneum at Graz and in the Kunstgewerbliches Museum, Prague.
