This figure representing Eros, together with related figures A. 8, 9 and 10-1947, was presented to the museum by Lord Wimbourne when he left Wimbourne House in Arlington Street, London, where the four statues had been displayed in niches in the dining room. They had been bought from A. Strom at 23, Rue Saint-Lazare, Paris, in 1919, where they had been attributed to the French sculptor, René Frémin (1672-1744), but there seemed to be no information about provenance.
