This is one of a collection of designs for pantomime and cabaret, given to the Theatre Museum by the designer, Cynthia Tingey, who created the costumes for 15 of the annual London Palladium pantomimes. This design was made for the pantomime, Babes in the Wood, at the London Palladium, 19 December 1972. The production was directed by Albert J. Knight. Bill Maynard played Jasper Snatchem and Derek Nimmo played Rodney Willoughby Fortescue.

Physical description | Design for Jasper Snatchem and Rodney Willoughby Fortescue in Babes in the Wood, showing two full length bearded male figures, the left hand stocky figure in a high necked long sleeved tunic, the body of grey-green fabric pleated to a wide yoke, the full sleeves of purple fabric gathered to the elbow, worn with an olive green belt in which is stuck a dagger, green breeches or tights, green boots and a grey-green Robin Hood hat decorated with three green feathers. The right hand spindly figure wears a blue, long sleeved tunic with a purple scalloped yoke, a similar belt, purple breeches or tights, brown boots and a similar hat with one pale blue feather. The background is painted in grey gouache. The design is signed and dated and on the reverse is inscribed with the name of the actors and the pantomime. |
