Design for Princess Balroubadour in Aladdin, showing a full length female figure, wearing a Chinese style costume consisting of a greenish-pink high necked, knee length, tunic with wide flowing white sleeves patterned with leaves, the hem patterned with large pale purple leaves and the whole belted with a long belt of greyish-pink fabric, over a full length pink skirt. She wears an elaborate silvery grey Chinese headdress. The design is signed and dated, and on the reverse is inscribed with the name of the actor, the scene, the character and the production.

Object history
This is one of a collection of designs for pantomime and cabaret, given to the Theatre Museum by the designer, Cynthia Tingey, who created the costumes for 15 of the annual London Palladium pantomimes. This design was made for the pantomime, Aladdin, at the London Palladium, 20 December 1978. The production was directed by Dougie Squires. Wei Wei Wong played Princess Balroubadour.

Historical significance: An example of pantomime costume design of the second half of the 20th century and of the work of a designer who specialised in pantomime and variety design.
