Cup and Saucer

about 1870 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The pottery at Villa Belvedere in Frascati, Italy, was specialising in the then fashionable Etruscan style during the 1870s. While the Museum of Practical Geology (from where this cup and saucer were transferred in 1901) acquired ceramics production for its illustration of the use of different clays, the South Kensington Museum (now the V&A) would have been interested in this for its evidence of late 19th century interest in classical design.
