Dish, deeply sunk centre and wide rim. The middle is painted with an armorial shield charged with a black scorpion on a yellow ground and surmounted by a helmet with a bird's head and neck for crest. The shield is supported by two nude boys and the mantling is formed of leafy scrolls. Round the edge of the rim is a band of interlacing green foliage; the remaining surface is filled in with white floral scrolls in compartments.

Physical description

Object history
Historical significance: In 1878 Ulisse Cantagalli inherited a factory in Florence and began to trade as Manifattura Figli di Giuseppe Cantagalli. His main production was of copies of Italian maiolica, but also of other European and Middle Eastern ceramics.
