This candelabrum, or wall sconce, was designed and made by Minton, Stoke-on-Trent, from about 1835. The candelabrum were sold with a variety of decorative finishes, here emulating Sèvres French porcelain with ornate gilding. Throughout the nineteenth century Minton and Sèvres enjoyed a great exchange of styles and ideas, with many designers and painters moving from France to England. The French style in the rococo style remained fashionable in England into the 1870s when candelabra of this type continued to be made.
