  • 'DAVENPORT' over an anchor with '4' and '8' on either side of the anchorfor the date 1848. (impressed to base)
  • A cartouche of flowers and scroll-work enclosing the words 'Scott's Illustrations, Bride of Lammermoor' with 'DAVENPORT' beneath (most of word is missing) (printed in blue to base)

Historical context
The pattern was taken from the Magnum Opus collected edition of Scott's works, published by Robert Cadell between 1829 and 1833. the date range of these Scott illustrations is from the mid 1830s to the 1860s. See Coysh and Henrywood.
