Bust of a woman, emblematic of Summer, in tin-glazed earthenware painted in colours. Her head is turned to the left, and her hair is bound in a wreath of corn-ears and roses with foliage, and caught together at the back but for two strands which hang over her shoulders. The eyes and hair are painted in blue, and her brocaded robe is painted in red, green, blue and yellow and turned back to show a blue lining. Four-sided pedestal with gadrooned top and incurved sides painted with a cornucopia containing flowers, birds and scrolls.

Object history | Letters from the curator of the Musées royaux d'art et d'histoire (Bruxelles, 23th December 1932) and from M. Guey (Musée de Rouen, 3rd January 1933) attached to the register confirming it is a 19th century imitation. A closely similar bust in Brussels (see Dansart, Les anciennes faïences de Bruxelles, pl. XXXIV) labelled as ancient Brussels by the author but considered to be 19th century by the curator (see letter in register). For other comparaisons, see register. |
