The colourful character of Italian maiolica (tin-glazed earthenware) may have inspired the introduction of a more colourful palette to the traditional blue and white of early Iznik wares. The new colours included turquoise, then black, sage green and a manganese purple, included in the decoration of this dish.

Physical description
Dish of pale buff coloured fritware, painted in colours on a white slip and covered with a clear glaze. Painted in cobalt, turquoise-blue, manganese-purple and sage-green, the centre with swirling tulips, chysanthemums, lilies and saz leaves. The rim is decorated with white flowers in groups separated by green crescents on a cobalt ground. The underside with triple-tulip buds alternating with rosettes.
