The figure is copied from a print engraved by Ravenet after François Boucher, Noble French Matron, Ancienne mode Françoise, which in turn is copied from a woodcut in a sixteenth century Venetian book on dress (Cesare Vecellio, Degli Habiti Antichi e Moderni di tutto il Mondo: di nuovo accresiuti di molte figure, published Venice, 1590).
