Oval plaque of white stoneware with blue jasper dip and applied white stoneware relief. The scene depicts 'Charlotte Mourning at the tomb of Werther', from a popular Romantic novel by Goethe. A female figure kneels in prayer before a pedestal on which stands an urn. She wears classical robes. At the foot of the pedestal is a seated dog. Around the outside of the scene is a border of applied white flowers, within which is another border of dots.
