Historical context | This type of cup has been identified as the 'artichoke cups' and 'artichoke butter cups' mentioned in factory documents (see G. Godden, Caughley and Worcester Porcelains ... , revised edition 1981, p. 28 and pl. 85, where this piece is illustrated). It would seem from this that they were used for the popular savoury sauce made with melted butter, flour and water. |
