Vase and cover of soft-paste porcelain. The body of the vase expands upwards to the convex shoulder. The short domed cover has a turned, pointed finial, and sits on a very low vertical neck ring. The shoulder and cover are each painted with two lobed panels containing landscapes. These are partly set over diapered ornament; and they alternate with shaped panels which terminate in symmetrically interlacing scrollwork, and which contain flowers loosely derived form Japanese Kakiemon patterns. The lower body of the vase is painted with exotic birds and shrubs that are more closely related to the Japanese originals.
